Slab on Grade and T-shape Concrete Foundations

Concrete slab, or “slab on grade”, does just what it says on the tin in that it’s a slab, of concrete, laid on a level piece of land which is referred to as a grade. The concrete is usually several inches thick and is poured thicker at the edges where it’s fashioned to help anchor it.

The most common technique for this is to pour it on site (often called poured-in-place). With poured in place, the concrete is either transported to the site in a rotating drum mixer on a truck or is mixed in one on site. Assuming the surfaces have been properly and meticulously prepared, the it is poured on to/in to where it’s expected to set. Often, especially in the case of a T-shape foundation, the mold is sloped out like the bottom of the hourglass to lock the concrete in place and make the whole foundation stronger. This is called keying.

T-shape is perfect for areas where the ground freezes as the keyed footing is poured below the frost line. Following this, a column is poured rising to the surface creating an upside down T. These pillars are attached to the surface that’s finally laid, providing superior anchorage and strength.

With other techniques such as slab on grade or frost resistant the basic process is the same as with T-shaped foundations except the thicker parts at the edges are squared off with the inside side sloped. They also don’t extend down into the terra nearly as far.

With slab on grade, the concrete is generally poured over a layer of crushed gravel to help with drainage. Other modifications can be made by our experts such as the use of a wire mesh within the concrete, reducing cracking risk helping both the aesthetics and the safety.

Frost Protected Foundations

Frost protected foundations are essentially a modification on slab on grade to protect against freezing. The set out is more or less the same however with frost protected foundations there is an extra layer of insulation to prevent heat loss around the edges of the walls or flooring. For this reason, it’s usually only worth doing for heated structures. Another benefit is that the earth directly around the house footings is heated enough to prevent freezing when the rest of the ground feels Jack Frost’s touch. This in turn can be an added layer of protection against damages the cold may cause to, say, a heating pipe.

Drains and Drainage Solutions in Rancho Cucamonga CA

The seemingly simplest concrete paving installation you can choose is to put a concrete path in. This can, however, end up being reasonably time consuming especially if you have a dense garden for our team to work around. Regardless, we will not let time or difficulty deter our company pavers from working hard every day to get the quality results you desire! Like with all our concrete laying services, different carvings, stamps and other finishing or painting techniques can be applied to give the walkway any look you could want. Paths can bring alive gardens in ways often not expected until they’re installed. They provide a guided tour though your favorite plants and installations while directing you from a to b at the same time. Often when someone feels their backyard isn’t on point, a walkway needs laying.

This can be to redirect water away from said concrete to avoid damaging it. Alternatively, concrete can be used to create a trench drainage channel which is something we are also happy to get done for you. Although they’re usually used on streets and in more commercial settings, concrete trench drains can be used to add a beautiful aesthetic finish to driveways or gardens. Alternatively, culvert pipes running under the drive or lawn can also be perfect so long as they’re installed correctly so the necessary amount of water can run off safely.
